Shoe shop near Brussels-Midi station: on foot, by metro or tram

Shelves of boxes and displayed shoes at Outlet Chaussures Bruxelles on Place du Jeu de Balle, a quarter of an hour from Brussels-Midi station

Looking for a shoe shop near Brussels Midi that you can visit between two trains? Outlet Chaussures Bruxelles is on Place du Jeu de Balle in the Marolles, about a quarter of an hour on foot from Brussels-Midi (South) station. This article explains how to reach us on foot, by metro, tram or bus, what to do with your suitcase or pushchair, and how to fit your visit around your train.

Why Brussels-Midi and the Marolles go well together

Brussels-Midi is the station for the Eurostar and the TGV, and on weekdays for many commuters too. Step outside and you are a quarter of an hour’s walk from the Marolles, the working-class neighbourhood around Place du Jeu de Balle. The square hosts the flea market every morning, and at number 40 you will find our shop.

The combination works both ways. If you arrive on an international train, a walk through the Marolles is a pleasant first taste of Brussels. If you leave later in the day, a stroll around the market and trying on a few pairs is a useful way to fill the wait. Everything worth knowing about the area is in our guide to the Marolles and the Place du Jeu de Balle flea market.

Inside the shop, the shelves are stacked to the ceiling with boxes: women’s, men’s and children’s shoes from Geox, Ecco, Naturino, Primigi, Valentino and Voile Blanche, from sneakers and trainers to smart shoes, boots and sandals, plus Geox jackets. We buy in bulk in Italy, directly from large chains, and sell in Brussels at fixed outlet prices from roughly €20 to €150, all year round. How that works is explained in our article on our shoe outlet in Brussels.

On foot: a quarter of an hour

The simplest option is to walk. From Brussels-Midi, allow about a quarter of an hour to Place du Jeu de Balle; any map app will take you there with the address Place du Jeu de Balle 40, 1000 Brussels. The shop opens straight onto the square, so as soon as you see the market stalls, you have arrived.

Allow a little extra time with a heavy suitcase or with children. There are no changes to make, and you see a slice of the city on the way. If you come in the morning, you walk straight into the flea market, which is held every morning.

The way back takes the same quarter of an hour. If you do not want to miss your train, count on half an hour of walking in total, on top of your time in the shop.

Metro, tram and bus

Rather not walk? STIB/MIVB metro, tram and bus services run nearby; the closest stops are Jeu de Balle / Vossenplein and Chapelle / Kapellekerk, both near the square. Check lines and departure times with STIB/MIVB when you travel; we deliberately leave them out here so you never rely on outdated information.

How Where Good to know
On foot From Brussels-Midi to Place du Jeu de Balle 40 About a quarter of an hour, no changes
Metro, tram and bus (STIB/MIVB) Stops Jeu de Balle / Vossenplein and Chapelle / Kapellekerk Stops near the square; check lines with STIB/MIVB
Car Neighbourhood and city centre Paid parking in the area and in the public car parks of the centre

If you do come by car, expect paid parking in the area and in the public car parks of the centre. All the practical details, with a map and the address, are on our page Store and how to get here.

With a suitcase or a pushchair

Coming straight from the train? Your suitcase is welcome inside the shop. Our shoes come in their original box, which keeps them protected in your luggage. If you would rather travel without the box to save space, just tell us at the till.

You are equally welcome with a pushchair. Children’s shoes from Naturino and Primigi are displayed in bins and on shelves, so you can look and try together with your child. Measure your child’s foot at home or note the current size; our shoe size chart converts quickly between EU, UK and US sizes.

Between two trains? This short checklist saves time:

  • Know your shoe size, ideally in EU sizing too, so we can pull the right boxes straight away.
  • Wear or bring the socks you will wear with the shoes.
  • Always try on both shoes and walk a few steps around the shop.
  • Arrive before 3.30 pm, when we close, every day of the week.
  • If you come in the morning, combine your visit with a wander around the flea market.

Our opening hours and your train

We are open every day from 10 am to 3.30 pm, seven days a week, so on Sundays and at the weekend too, when many travellers arrive or depart. If your train gets in during the morning, you have plenty of time to see the market and try on shoes with us. If you leave in the afternoon, come before midday so you can choose calmly and get back to the station in time.

If you reach Brussels after 3.30 pm, we are closed, but we open again the next morning at 10 am. For more on our hours and the quietest moments, read our article on our opening hours, Sundays included. On public holidays, check our Google listing or email us at gihansprl@hotmail.com.

One last calculation: a quarter of an hour there, a quarter of an hour back and thirty to forty-five minutes in the shop to try things on properly. That fits comfortably into a stopover of an hour and a half to two hours. Come by, take your time trying on, and board your train with a new pair in your suitcase.
