Shopping in the Marolles: the Jeu de Balle flea market, getting there and our store

Inside Outlet Chaussures Bruxelles on Place du Jeu de Balle: shelves of shoes up to the ceiling

The Jeu de Balle flea market, held every morning in the heart of the Marolles, draws visitors to the neighbourhood, and our shoe store stands on that very square, at number 40. In this article you will find out how to get there on foot, by metro, tram or bus, where to park and how to plan a morning in the area. We also explain what you will find at Outlet Chaussures Bruxelles: women’s, men’s and children’s shoes from brands such as Geox, Ecco and Valentino, at fixed outlet prices. A trip to the market becomes the perfect moment to try on a new pair.

The Jeu de Balle flea market: every morning

Place du Jeu de Balle, Vossenplein in Dutch, is the heart of the Marolles. The flea market takes place here every morning, seven days a week, Sundays included. That is convenient: you do not have to wait for the weekend to wander between the stalls.

If you want to combine the market with a visit to our store, come in the morning. The market runs every morning and we open at 10 am. Browse the stalls first, then step inside to try on shoes, and you will be carrying your new pair before midday. It is a morning market; we stay open until 3.30 pm, so you can also drop in later in the day.

A flea market takes time and good shoes. You stand and walk for a few hours, bend over crates and carry whatever you have found; sore feet cut that short. That is another reason we make a logical stop: you will find comfortable trainers and lace-ups here for a long day in the city.

On foot, by metro, tram and bus

If you arrive by train, Brussels-Midi (South) station is the handiest starting point. From there, it is a quarter of an hour on foot to Place du Jeu de Balle. For travellers with a suitcase or a pushchair we have written a separate article: our shoe shop near Brussels-Midi station.

By public transport, getting here is straightforward: STIB/MIVB metro, tram and bus services stop nearby. The closest stops are Jeu de Balle / Vossenplein and Chapelle / Kapellekerk. Plan your journey with the Google Maps button at the bottom of this article, which opens our address directly.

Parking nearby

If you come by car, bear in mind that the market occupies the square itself in the morning. You park in the surrounding streets, where parking is paid, or in one of the public car parks of the city centre. From there, you walk to the square.

For a market morning we honestly recommend public transport, or the walk from Brussels-Midi. You avoid hunting for a space and watching the meter while you try on shoes. If you buy several pairs or a Geox jacket, a car park in the centre is handy for carrying everything home.

A morning in the Marolles

Here is how to plan a morning in the neighbourhood, with the market and our store as fixed stops:

  • Start on Place du Jeu de Balle: the flea market is held there every morning.
  • At 10 am we open at number 40. Come in right at opening time and you try on shoes in peace; see also the best times to visit.
  • Then carry on around the market or do a second lap of the stalls; your purchase travels safely in its original box.
  • Torn between two pairs? Come back before 3.30 pm to decide. We are open all day, Sundays included.

What should you bring? Comfortable shoes, a sturdy bag for your market finds, and the socks you usually wear if you want to try on sneakers or boots with us: that way you can be sure of the size.

If you come with children, the combination works for them too: the market is an adventure, and at our store they try on Naturino or Primigi while you browse the shelves. Children’s shoes are best bought with the child present; that is possible every day of the week.

Our store on the square

Outlet Chaussures Bruxelles is at Place du Jeu de Balle 40, on the square itself, so there is no side street to find. We are open every day from 10 am to 3.30 pm, Sundays included. All the practical details, with a map, are on our Store and directions page.

Inside, the shelves reach the ceiling, filled with boxes: sneakers and trainers, dress shoes, boots and ankle boots, sandals, for women, men and children. A rail of Geox jackets hangs alongside. The brands you will find are Geox, Ecco, Naturino, Primigi, Valentino and Voile Blanche; read more on our brands page.

Our prices range from €20 to €150, and they are fixed prices all year round. We buy in bulk in Italy, directly from large retail chains, and sell those new shoes, in their original boxes, at discount prices in Brussels. No temporary offers, no month to wait for: what you see today costs the same tomorrow. To see exactly how that works, read our article on how the outlet works.

You try everything on in the store, at your own pace; our range of sizes and models is wide, so do ask for another size or colour. To get in touch, e-mail us through our contact page; we have no online shop, the shoes are bought in store.
